How it is calculated
- Dividend before tax: shares × dividend per share × payments per year (× exchange rate for US stocks)
- Korean stock withholding: dividend income tax 14% + local income tax (10% of income tax) = 15.4%
- US stocks: 15% is withheld in the US. Since that is above the Korean rate (14%), this calculator assumes nothing more is withheld in Korea.
- Dividend yield: annual dividend per share ÷ share price
Keep in mind
To receive a dividend, you must be on the shareholder register on the record date. Buying on or after the ex-dividend date means you miss that payment.
On the ex-dividend date, the price may in theory adjust down by about the dividend, so buying just for the dividend does not guarantee a profit.
Companies can cut or stop dividends. Past dividends do not mean future dividends.
From 2026, Korea lets some high-dividend companies’ dividends be taxed separately, but the requirements and rates need checking, so this calculator does not include it.
